So, these are not simple issues thus far, though I am certain there are some simple answers for them.

I'll update here if I find any solutions.īy the way, I am fairly new to Ubuntu, and Linux in general for that matter, but I have 30 years of tech experience repairing, building and configuring systems. Glad to have any resolutions sent my way on the forums, but I will continue to search for a resolution to these problems as well. Those are the four little issues I have with the Ubuntu 8.10 update. When we get to the one way progress bar (instead of the back and forth), and then boots 'normally'. I thought I was missing messages asking for an answer, and that's when I started hitting keys. It will move a bit each time a key is pressed (usually I press "Y"). And the last issue that I have noticed, so far, is that when the system is on the Ubuntu boot screen with the bar going back and forth, it will freeze unless I hit keys on the keyboard. The mouse console in preferences does not allow any changes to the middle mouse button. It will open a new link in a tab in Firefox though. Oh yeah, the middle mouse button on my M$ Wireless USB mouse won't click the scroll icon on or off. The camera does seem to work with no problems. This, of course, means I can't use Skype, which is a tool I use with my clients.

I have tried several fixes for this, but still no success. The internal mic doesn't work anymore. The sound does adjust on eeach application's sound control though, but it should do both. The sound control images come up but the sound still blasts at full volume even if I mute the controls with the sound buttons.

This is extremely frustrating so far, as I have not been able to find a solution yet. Sound runs fine, but the button controls are completely independent of the sounds running on Youtube, and other videos and sound applications (like ).

:) I did that, and here are the problems that I have been trying to resolve since the upgrade to 8.10: :( Everything ran better than on Vista and XP right away! The 8.04 Ubuntu distro rocked on this laptop, and I was eager to move to the 8.10.

The machine ran after install (which took about 15mins, compared to the WinXP initial install at over 1.5hrs plus configuration time) with all the drivers from Ubuntu. Results: This is the first machine I have been able to get CompizFusion to work with my video cards on Ubuntu. For reasons that I have to say are common with dissatisfied Vista users, and after trying to get WinXP to run on the laptop (HP won't give up the XP drivers for the machine) and because I have been looking into running Ubuntu and moving to Linux in general, I did the 8.04 CD install. I bought a new HP DV9000 that came with Vista (crashed IE right out of the box for no apparent reason).
